The lucky horn (cornicello) is the oldest symbol of the South. There isn't a Calabrian home without one: on the door, in the kitchen, on the bathroom mirror. It has always been there, and nobody questions it.
This one is handmade by Maurizio in Altomonte, in terracotta. The shape is the classic one: long, pointed and red. The colour is painted by hand before firing, so it's part of the piece rather than sitting on top like a layer of paint.
Terracotta gives the horn a different weight from plastic, a different presence from glass. You feel it in your hand. You notice it on the wall.
Hang it by the front door, in the kitchen, anywhere you want to keep something good close by.
An object that needs no explanation. In Calabria, everyone has always known.
