Maurizio's jug is the one for water, for wine, for cool drinks. Round bellied, with a handle, with a spout that pours well: a shape that's existed for centuries because it works.
In Calabria the terracotta jug was an everyday thing. For water from the spring, for wine from the cellar, for summer juice. Terracotta keeps things cool without a fridge: the porous clay lets moisture slowly evaporate, lowering the temperature inside. It isn't magic: it's what still happens today.
Handmade by Maurizio in Altomonte. The handle is attached by hand, while the clay is still soft. The spout is shaped to pour without dripping. The small imperfections are what you get from a handmade object.
Used for water, for wine, for summer drinks. It looks good brought to the table.
A jug that does what it's meant to do. And has done so for centuries.
