The terracotta jug is the one for homemade wine. Generous, with a handle, with a wide mouth that lets it breathe. It's not a piece for display: it's one to use.
In Calabria wine was brought to the table in the jug. Not in the bottle, not in a decanter. In the terracotta jug, which kept it cool and let it breathe slowly. It was the right container for homemade wine, the kind kept in the cellar and brought up at lunchtime.
This one is handmade by Maurizio in Altomonte. The handle is shaped by hand, attached to the body while it's still soft. The mouth is wide, made to pour well. The inner glaze is what protects the clay without changing the taste.
It's used for wine, but also for water, for juices, for cool summer drinks.
A piece for the table. The kind that gets passed from hand to hand.
12cm (H); 1 pc.
The measurements may vary by millimeters because they are handmade.
