The limma is the traditional Calabrian water jug. Round bellied, with a narrow neck and a small mouth: a shape that has existed for centuries, made to keep water cool without a refrigerator.

In Calabria it was kept on the sideboard or on the windowsill. The porous terracotta lets moisture evaporate slowly through its walls, lowering the temperature inside. It's simple physics, no electricity, no technology. The water in the limma stayed cool all day, even in summer.

This one is handmade by Maurizio with clay worked on the wheel. The shape follows the traditional one, the one that was never changed because there was nothing to change. The small irregularities on the surface tell of the work of hands.

It's still used for water, but also for holding wildflowers, or simply for sitting on the table as a piece that tells you where it comes from.

An object that has already done everything it was meant to do. For centuries.
