The limma is the traditional Calabrian water vessel. Round-bellied, with a narrow neck and a small mouth: a shape that has existed for centuries, designed to keep water cool without a fridge.
 
In Calabria it sat on the dresser or the windowsill. Porous terracotta lets moisture slowly evaporate through its walls, lowering the temperature inside. Simple physics – no electricity, no technology. Water in a limma stayed cool all day, even in summer.
 
This one is handmade by Maurizio, with the clay worked on the wheel. It follows the traditional shape, the one that never changed because there was nothing to change. The small irregularities in the surface tell of the work of human hands.
 
It's still used for water, but also for wild flowers, or simply to sit on the table as a piece that tells where it comes from.
 
An object that has already done everything it was meant to do. For centuries.
