A terracotta cup changes the way you drink. It doesn't have the transparency of glass or the lightness of plastic. It has a different weight in your hand, a different temperature, a way of holding water or wine you won't forget.
 
In Calabria people have always drunk from terracotta. In farmhouses, in country kitchens, at festive tables. Terracotta keeps drinks cool without a fridge: the porous clay lets the liquid breathe and lowers its temperature, keeping it just as it should be.
 
These cups are handmade by Maurizio in Altomonte, on a kick wheel. The shape is the classic straight one, made to sit well in the hand. Small variations in the surface and a glaze that isn't perfectly even: these are the marks of an object made without moulds.
 
Use them for water, wine or juice. For drinking slowly, the way people used to.
